Award in First Line Management Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM)

Aimed at practising and potential managers, the level 3 Award in First Line Management is a comprehensive programme of learning which focuses on a broad range of management skills and knowledge. It actively encourages learners to reflect on their existing practice, explore new ways of working and manage themselves, their teams and their organisational requirements effectively.

As more organisations are recognising the value of integrated learning and development, the importance of matching needs with solutions is evident.

Many staff are keen to move into management positions but lack the confidence or knowledge regarding the specific abilities of a manager. Many team members demonstrate the potential to become good managers but immediate promotion opportunities are not available, whilst others inherit management responsibilities yet don’t currently have any formal awareness of the complexity, challenges and opportunities associated with the role.

The Award in First Line Management offers scope for learning about a wide range of relevant transferable subjects, which are applicable to those who are practising managers and those who aspire to become one.

Focus areas include:

  • Managing Self
  • Management Skills and Competency
  • Understanding Organisations
  • Managing Change
  • Managing Activities
  • Managing Resources
  • Developing People
  • Managing People
  • Communication
  • Managing Information
