COACHING FOR
MANAGERS

Coaching can help management and leadership potential to be realised. Through motivation, encouragement, collaborative problem solving and joint identification of achievable goals, a coach enables a manager to build confidence, competence, and effectiveness.

Investors in People
We have been considering being assessed against the Investors in People (IIP) standards for a good while now.
As the main office base is located in Romsey, we are now registered with the Wessex Business Link and are intending to ask for our assessment to take place early in January 2006.
After meetings with an advisor and undertaking a self assessment procedure – it has become clear that we are already quite well placed in terms of our systems and practices to undergo assessment.
However, we are not complacent and there will be several opportunities in the next couple of months where associates and stakeholders will have an opportunity to hear about our plans and be involved in contributing to them.
Partnership with Oxfordshire’s Flying Colours Centre
Our partnership with Oxfordshire County Council’s Flying Colours NVQ Centre is continuing to work well.
A second tranche of assessors trained earlier in the year are beginning to put their A1 portfolios together and several of the first group of assessors trained by Lynn last year are beginning to work towards their V1 awards.
They helped to organise the first visit of their EV to the centre in Cowley and are very keen to begin to operate the systems of the centre and make improvements where they can.
The EV, Linda Johnson from Edexcel was impressed with the centre and its early work and acknowledged the part played by our key staff is getting the centre and its assessors up and running.
Working with Flying Colours is a really good example of the way NCS is able to provide support to an NVQ centre, which will then gradually takes more and more responsibility for itself – leaving us able to withdraw having offered advice and guidance based on our experience and expertise.
Jane James has been leading the IV team in Oxford with magnificent support from Barbara Maddocks and some extra valuable help from Karen Bishop.
